Scoliosis
Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine, in children and adults — assessed carefully and corrected with 3-D planning when needed.

What is scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a sideways curve of the spine, often with some rotation. It most commonly appears during the growth years but can also develop in adults from degeneration. Many curves are mild and simply monitored; some need bracing or, less often, surgical correction.
Signs to look for
- Uneven shoulders or waist
- One shoulder blade more prominent
- A visible lean or curve
- Back pain in adult or degenerative scoliosis
Assessment & treatment
A standing full-spine X-ray measures the curve, and the plan depends on its size, the patient’s age and whether it is progressing. Options range from monitoring and bracing in growing children to 3-D planned surgical correction with neuromonitoring for significant curves.
Frequently asked questions
Often it just needs monitoring. Dr. Sivaraj tracks the curve during growth and only escalates to bracing or surgery if it progresses.
Yes. Adult and degenerative scoliosis is treated based on symptoms, balance and nerve involvement.
